She bought herbal teas. Magnesium tablets. Sleep sprays. Some app that played rain sounds.
Then came the headphones.
First a soft headband. Then some special sleep earbuds.
Every one of them ended up in the drawer.
“It’s too hot.”
“They slip out when I turn over.”
“They press against my ear.”
“I can still feel them even after I take them off.”
But listening to something before bed, was the only thing she'd found that would calm her down enough to drift off.
She said it helped drown out her thoughts. And I get that.
The problem was: nothing she tried was made for actual people who actually sleep in actual beds.
Everything had wires, or Bluetooth, or required a glowing screen at night.
Or worse—she gave up trying to sleep altogether and just stayed up scrolling.
I hated watching her slowly fall apart.
